MR. FLETCHER HANKS, CNAC Second World War China National Aviation Corporation pilot: Mr. Hanks began his professional flying career as a co-pilot for Pan American Airways on Central and South American air routes. Transferring to Pan Am's Alaskan subsidiary, Pan Alaska, he air evacuated battle casualties from the Aluetian Islands Campaign to the U.S. At the end of 1943, Hanks transferred to Pan Am's Asian partner, China National Aviation Corporation where he flew supplies over the "Hump" and throughout war-torn China. After the War, Hanks went into the commercial fishing industry, where as head of Hanks Seafood Company, he pioneered new methods of seafood production. In 1997, as a guest of China Association for Expedition, Hanks returned to China to participated in an historic aviation archeological expedition that both located and reached the crash site of a CNAC C-53 transport that had been reported missing since 1943 while flying the treacherous "Hump" air route. ¡@ |
