DAVID K. HAYWARD

Hayward joined the Army Air Force as an Aviation Cadet in early 1942 and completed B-25 pilot training in March of 1943.  Assigned to the 22nd Bomb Squadron of the 341st Bomb Group (Medium) in Chakulia, India, Hayward flew his first combat missions in support of Allied Forces in Burma.  In January 1944, the B-25's of the 22nd Bomb Squadron moved to Yankai, China and were assigned to Major General Claire Chennault's 14th Air Force.  While in China, Hayward would fly 52 low-level combat missions over southeastern China, French Indo-China and the South China Sea.
